Overview

Compliance with money laundering obligations is one of the greatest challenges for solicitors in the UK  today.

The Law Society is committed to assisting solicitors meet those obligations and provide a robust defence against money launderers attempting to abuse our professional services.

As MLROs develop in their role or work in larger firms with more complicated transactions, their training needs develop.  This course is designed to develop with them.

This course builds on previous AML courses and looks to extend practitioners experience with more complicated AML scenarios as they work through possible suspicious activities of clients in an corporate and international context.

This masterclass will cover topics such as:

  • reporting obligations in corporate transactions
  • civil liability
  • tipping off provisions

Who should attend?

This seminar is targeted towards experienced money laundering reporting officers and other compliance staff working for large firms with a predominantly company or commercial focus.

Speaker

Peter Burrell is a partner in one of the general commercial litigation groups and, in addition to general/fraud commercial litigation, specialises in contentious regulatory work including conducting and managing internal investigations, either commenced by the company itself following the discovery of an internal problem or commenced as a result of an external investigation by the Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs, DTI and the FSA.

He also advises on all aspects associated with compliance with the relevant money laundering provisions systems and controls to prevent financial crime.  A large part of Peter's practice entails advising on criminal liability issues, in particular, anti-corruption policies and procedures, as well as managing and conducting criminal investigations and proceedings.
